Backpack Buddies Featured in Statesman Journal Article

backpack_buddies_statesmanSaint Mark’s Backpack Buddies program was featured in the Sunday June 9th edition of the Salem Statesman Journal. The article by Capi Lynn features Saint Mark volunteers Diane Painter and Nancy Carlisle, who sent a sample page to be placed on Lynn’s desk at the newspaper.

Backpack Buddies is designed to help meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations. Two meals are provided for each student and the bags are discreetly placed in their backpacks. Saint Mark volunteers take care of the packing, sorting, and delivering of 50 meals a week during the school year.
